Reactions poured in from Democrats and Republicans after the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner shooting on Saturday night, with both sides condemning the violence.
Governor JB Pritzker (D-IL) shared on X, “Violence has no place in our nation.”

“Political violence is absolutely unacceptable. I am glad the President and guests at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner are safe,” Mayor Zohran Mamdani (D-NY) posted on X.
Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez (D-WA) shared that assassination attempts against President Donald Trump need to stop.
“Please stop trying to murder the president,” she posted on X.
During the dinner, many attendees reported hearing a noise that sounded like gunshots. Shortly after, the Secret Service rushed the stage to evacuate the president and other Cabinet members.
“We’re thankful no innocent people were harmed and everyone is now safe. We’re grateful as always for the law enforcement and first responders who acted so quickly to bring the situation under control. Praying for our country tonight,” Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) said afterward.
“I am closely monitoring the unfolding situation at the White House Correspondents Dinner. I’m grateful for the quick response of law enforcement and am praying everyone remains safe,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) posted on X.
“Relieved everyone at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner is safe tonight based on initial reports. A free press is foundational to our country. Violence is never acceptable,” California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) said on X.
Trump posted photos and a video of the gunman on Truth Social. The suspect has been widely identified as Cole Tomas Allen, a 31-year-old teacher from Los Angeles, California.
Trump shared an update on the shooting, saying one agent was hit by gunfire but was protected by a vest and is expected to be OK.
“To the American people, let’s all pray for calmer waters and try to be part of the solution, not the problem,” Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said on X.
“Grateful that our President and the other attendees at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner are safe after tonight’s shooting. Praying for the recovery of the officer who was shot. Political violence is un-American & it needs to end,” Republican gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy said on X.
“While we await more information from law enforcement, one thing is for certain: political violence is never okay — and it has no place in this country,” Gov. Josh Shapiro (D-PA) also said on X.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, alongside D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser and D.C. Police chief Jeff Carroll, said the shooter will be arraigned on Monday.
