Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell released a video statement on Sunday night denying criminal wrongdoing shortly after the Department of Justice opened an investigation into him.

Powell appeared on camera to address the inquiry, which concerns Senate testimony he gave last year about renovations at the Fed headquarters building in Washington, D.C. Powell slammed the investigation as an “unprecedented action” that “should be seen in the broader context of the administration’s threats and ongoing pressure.”
