Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan endorsed congressional hopeful Matthew Foldi for MD-06 on Wednesday.

“Matthew Foldi represents a new generation of common sense conservative leaders. He fought with us to take on the one-party monopoly in Annapolis, and I trust him to hold the career Washington politicians accountable,” Hogan said in a statement.

Foldi, 25, is looking to become the youngest member of Congress, a title which is currently held by Rep. Madison Cawthorn (R-NC) at 26 years old.

“I am proud to endorse Matthew for Congress in the Sixth District. It’s time for all Republicans to unite behind Matthew and focus on defeating David Trone in November,” the governor added.

“I am very grateful for Gov. Hogan’s support of my campaign. I was there in 2014 when he launched his bid for governor, and I’m proud that he is supporting me now. I look forward to working with a united Republican Party to bring commonsense conservatism to Washington, D.C., flip the 6th District, and give the voters the full-time commitment they deserve,” Foldi told the Washington Examiner.

“I am THRILLED that @LarryHogan is the latest Maryland leader to join #TeamFoldi so we can finally flip #MD06,” the journalist-turned-politician tweeted following the endorsement. “I was there when he announced his run for governor and I am proud he’s standing with me today to keep changing Maryland for the better.”

Democratic Rep. David Trone is the current incumbent for Maryland’s 6th District, serving since 2019. Foldi has slammed Trone for his closure of constituent offices, previously telling the Washington Examiner, “I went to David Trone’s closed and locked constituent offices all across the 6th District of Maryland, and I saw the mail piling up in Hagerstown.”

“I saw the tattered sign in his Gaithersburg office because it’s yellowing because no one has even been there. The security guard told me no one’s been here in two years. I went to the Frederick office and saw that it’s in a Hispanic market, and these other businesses actually work seven days a week, whereas his office mail is overflowing,” he continued.
