A mountain lion made its way into a Northern California high school.

The cat, believed to be a young cub, wandered into an English classroom Wednesday at Pescadero High School, where a custodian quickly shut the door to trap it until more help arrived, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.

“Upon arrival, deputies were able to confirm it was a mountain lion and dispatch the California Department of Fish and Wildlife,” the sheriff’s office wrote on social media.

There was no safety threat to the public as of Wednesday evening, and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is working on a plan to capture the mountain lion and release it back into the wild.

All students and staff at the school are safe, and there were no students inside the classroom in which the animal was trapped, according to ABC 7.
