The “world’s greatest deliberative body” got some sage advice from one of the world’s foremost religious figures when the Dalai Lama delivered the Senate’s opening prayer Thursday.

The Buddhist monk asked those present to pray to “Buddha and all other gods.” Then, after poking fun at his broken English, implored the Senate to “speak or act with a pure mind, and happiness will follow you like a shadow that never leaves.”
