Sen. Rand Paul Tuesday proposed to cut off U.S. aid to Palestine until it agrees to a ceasefire with Israel and recognizes the right of the Jewish State to exist, a direct slap at Secretary of State John Kerry who warned Israel over the weekend to cut a deal with its Arab nation.
Called the “Stand with Israel Act of 2014,” the Kentucky Republican and possible 2016 presidential candidate said his plan is “to make all future aid to the Palestinian government conditional upon the new unity government putting itself on the record recognizing the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state and agreeing to a lasting peace.”
Kerry apologized this week for charging that Israel could become an “apartheid state” if it doesn’t cut a peace deal with the Palestinians.
The administration has been under fire for years for allegedly giving Israel the cold shoulder.
Paul’s action represented a formal break from his father, for Rep. Ron Paul, who called for an end to aid to Israel too.
