Sessions: Next speaker must end illegal immigration and not ‘apologize about it’

The Senate’s top advocate for ending illegal immigration is urging House Republicans to consider a new speaker who will advocate conservative GOP positions, including immigration reform.

“I’d like the speaker to be engaged in presenting the moral and legal case for many of the ideas that we Republicans believe in,” said Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions.

In a local TV interview, Sessions rapped outgoing House Speaker John Boehner for not being aggressive enough in promoting plans to end illegal immigration.

“I think the speaker has been way too, has ignored far too much the will of the American people on immigration,” Sessions told WKRG TV digital journalist Alison Spann.

Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan is being urged by many Republicans to run for speaker, he is reluctant. He has come under fire from conservatives for being soft on immigration.

Sessions believes that with a more supportive speaker, ending illegal immigration will happen.

“Were are going to end illegal immigration, we’re going to protect American jobs and wages, and we’re not going to apologize about it,” said Sessions.
