State did worry about a 9/11 attack: In Chile, not Libya

State Department security wasn’t totally at ease on this year’s anniversary of 9/11, when terrorists stormed the U.S. facility in Benghazi, Libya, killing the ambassador and others to the surprise of Washington.

While the department dismissed concerns in the Middle East of a copycat attack, they did issue a warning to workers in Chile, a key ally in South America. The reason: September 11 is the anniversary of the 1973 coup against Salvador Allende that installed Gen. Augusto Pinochet.
