Standing firm: ‘We’re not finished,’ says Pompeo

Secretary of State Michael Pompeo took the administration’s lead in brushing aside media rumors that the White House is conceding the election and is moving to begin the transition to a Biden team.

“We’re not finished,” he said on Tuesday at the inaugural opening of the Ronald Reagan Presidential Foundation and Institute’s Center for Freedom and Democracy, located on Black Lives Matter Plaza by the White House.

Later, he said, “There will be a smooth transition to a second Trump administration.” His comments carry extra weight because he is considered likely to run for president in the future.

He added that, as questions are posed from world leaders about the election outcome, he is telling them that the constitutional process and vote counting is ongoing and working as planned.

The comment was rebuked by former President Barack Obama’s United Nation’s ambassador, Samantha Power, who tweeted, “This is incredibly reckless, dangerous, and damaging to US security.” She offered no evidence.

Diplomatically, the administration’s key targets in the Middle East and China haven’t been delayed. A key administration official told Secrets that the effort to build more countries into the Israel peace agreements is on track and should be expanded soon.

And Pompeo said that process, and the effort to stop China’s march across the world, remain in force.

He was bullish in the continuation of the Trump administration’s efforts. He told the Reagan group, “President Reagan put his faith in freedom and the American promise at the very center of how he thought about foreign policy, and so has the Trump administration.”
