Florida Republican Gov. Rick Scott swept through Washington last week, cheering the state’s remarkable economic, housing and jobs recovery under his leadership, raising speculation that he is campaigning for the GOP vice presidential nomination or is beginning a 2018 Senate bid.
Scott was coy about who he would support for president, though the former businessman is close to Donald Trump.
Gov. Rick Scott talked about the “Florida turnaround” and presidential race at the Heritage Foundation.
But he noted that it is likely that Florida will do well in the presidential election even if he’s not on the ticket. The reason: He counts “four and a half” of the GOP candidates as Floridians. Sen. Marco Rubio and former Gov. Jeb Bush, of course. He also pointed to Ben Carson and Mike Huckabee, who live in the Sunshine State.
And the half? That’s Trump, who has a mansion at the Mar-a-Lago Club in Palm Beach. Trump’s a New York resident, but that hasn’t stopped Scott from urging him to move down full time, he said.
