President Donald Trump‘s newly implemented tariffs on steel and aluminum went into effect overnight on Tuesday, inviting varying levels of retaliation from the United States’s top trading partners.

The president had previously announced the new metals tariffs in February but delayed implementation until Tuesday to allow goods already in transit to escape the new fees and supply chains to adjust before being subject to increased prices.
