Democrats’ laser focus on the threat of Elon Musk to the lives of everyday people is producing the desired angry result with voters, but strategists say the strategy could have a short shelf life ahead of the 2026 midterm elections.

Since Republicans took control of the White House and both houses of Congress, Democratic leaders have centered their messaging strategies on attacking Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency for what they say is an overstep of authority — so much so that they frequently ignore the stream of comments and actions by President Donald Trump over the first few months of his presidency.
