Vice President JD Vance said he imitated former President Joe Biden to prevent himself from falling on an icy tarmac in Pennsylvania on Tuesday.
Vance gave a speech shortly after landing at Lehigh Valley International Airport in Allentown, where Lehigh Valley firefighters greeted the vice president and his family on the tarmac. Vance noted the colder weather while he addressed the crowd at a Uline warehouse.
“There before me is a sheet of black ice, and I think to myself, ‘If I walk over to those guys to take a photo, I’m going to bust my you-know-what,’” Vance said to laughter from the crowd.
“I did it the right way. I did do sort of the Biden slow shuffle to get over there. I did not want these national cameras to catch me doing anything. Because if I fell, if I wiped out on that runway, you all know that would be national news for the next week,” Vance said.
Vance cited one of Biden’s infamous falls, when the then-president fell going up the stairs while boarding Air Force One in 2021.
“Now, Joe Biden could fall walking up the steps in broad daylight, 80-degree weather, nobody would mind it, but if me or the president do anything like that, it’s going to be plastered all over the news,” Vance said.

Biden fell onstage after handing out the last diploma at the U.S. Air Force Academy graduation ceremony in Colorado in June 2023. Biden had also fallen when greeting a crowd on a bike in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, in June 2022, along with stumbling up the stairs to Air Force One on a few occasions.
The Washington Examiner has reached out to Biden for comment.
