After pledging to stop fraud, states should use Do Not Pay

Published

Twenty-two governors recently signed Vice President JD Vance’s Pledge to Protect Americans from Fraud. Noting that American taxpayers fund trillions in government benefits to support citizens in need, the pledge declares: “We must do all we can to stop the fraud and bring fraudsters and their enablers to justice, restoring trust and preserving these programs for future generations.” Twenty-two state financial officers joined the governors in signing the pledge.

For governors, state treasurers, and state auditors committed to honoring this pledge, establishing a partnership with the Treasury Department to use Do Not Pay would be a good first step.
