#Resistance attacks Trump for teleconferencing with the troops

Here’s a quick tip for the anti-Trump #Resistance: Inventing controversies where there are none actually works in the president’s favor.

Basically, don’t be like #resister Ryan Hill, who shared a photo on social media on Dec. 25 of Trump teleconferencing with U.S. troops stationed overseas, complaining that the president spends too much time watching television. Hill tweeted the photo with the accompanying caption, “This Presidency in a nutshell All he does is sit on his ass and watch TV,” adding the hashtags “#MerryChristmas” and “#ChristmasDay2018.”

Again, we’re talking about a picture of the president teleconferencing with American troops on Christmas Day. And for that, he’s being attacked by a #resister for, uh, I’m not sure, really. After a number of not-stupid people noted that the photo Hill tweeted showed the president getting in some face time with U.S. troops, the #resister tried hard to spin his blunder.

“Some MAGAs seem to be lost,” he tweeted. “I get that he is pretending to do work here. This visual is symbolic of his Presidency – a largely performative, hollow exercise that actually consists of him sitting on his ass binging on TV as he a constantly airs out grievances and assigns blame.”

As it turns out, the “fake but accurate” defense does not get any less annoying or smarmy with age.

Speaking of lazy, Hill likely didn’t notice that everyone on that television screen is wearing military attire. Because, hey, who has time to notice things like that when there’s a president who needs to be resisted?

The point here isn’t to pick on Hill. Indeed, he’s not even the worst offender when it comes to anti-Trump warriors saying irredeemably stupid and/or false things. He’s certainly not the first #resister to go to the mats over a controversy of his own making. Remember: Newsrooms are still pumping out straight-faced commentaries and analyses regarding the president’s phone call this week with a seven-year-old girl who wanted to talk about Santa Claus.

The point here is that if everything is at fever pitch, and there’s basically nothing Trump can do that won’t get the code red treatment from his detractors, people become desensitized and will eventually ignore all of it. If you’re going to go after this administration, then go after the things that matter. Take your time and make it count. Leave the nonsense distractions behind.
