It doesn’t seem to matter what a college does when responding to a sexual assault accusation — they are always wrong. That’s according to the Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, which investigates colleges and universities for alleged Title IX violations.

In a recent ruling against Michigan State University, OCR determined the school had violated Title IX by not providing a “prompt and equitable” response to an accusation of campus sexual assault because the school didn’t immediately open an investigation, even though the accuser didn’t want one.
