Colorado Gov. John Hickenlooper thinks that states, not the federal government, should run national energy policy. At a private White House meeting Tuesday, he made the argument directly to President Obama and Vice President Joe Biden.

Hickenlooper, a Democrat, met with them while in Washington for a meeting of the National Governors Association, for which he serves as vice chairman. He was one of six governors who met with the president and vice president. It is not clear how Obama and Biden reacted to his suggestion, though Hickenlooper said they did listen.
