Joe Rogan’s podcast is not the reason people distrust public health directives

The obsession with COVID “disinformation” on Joe Rogan’s podcast ignores one important fact: Rogan is not the reason people distrust public health directives.

The blame for that falls on hypocritical politicians, two-faced bureaucrats, and the collection of policy failures that people have witnessed and had to endure during the pandemic.

Rogan is not the one who, at the beginning of the pandemic, told people not to wear masks because they were not effective. Health bureaucrats in the Trump administration, including former Surgeon General Jerome Adams and Dr. Anthony Fauci, were saying that publicly and privately. Fauci later admitted that he had lied about masks in order to prevent a run on them. He subsequently pivoted to recommending people wear multiple masks, even if they were fully vaccinated like him.

Fauci also lied about the level of herd immunity because he didn’t think the country was ready for the real answer. When he wasn’t lying about important information, he was repeatedly making predictions that would prove to be wrong, prophesying a COVID surge that didn’t happen in Texas after the state lifted restrictions. He also praised New York for handling the pandemic “correctly.”

New York, you may remember, was putting COVID-positive patients in nursing homes. Democratic Gov. Andrew Cuomo, propped up by establishment media as a counterweight to former President Donald Trump, handled COVID worse than any other governor in the country. He had his order to place infected patients in nursing homes deleted from the Health Department’s website, and New York changed how it categorized nursing home deaths to cover up the damage that Cuomo’s order caused.

Rogan also isn’t the one who placed COVID restrictions on people and then shamelessly violated them. That would be California Gov. Gavin Newsom. Or San Francisco Mayor London Breed. Or Washington D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser. Or Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot. Or Cuomo. Or Newsom again, along with Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, just last weekend. And that doesn’t even include people who support COVID restrictions while ignoring the rules themselves, including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Dr. Deborah Birx.

And Rogan is not the one who is still pushing COVID restrictions for children, who are at less risk from COVID than they are from the flu. That is being done primarily by Democratic politicians and is supported by people such as Adams, who thinks children should be punished because not enough adults got vaccinated. Adams and others have don’t want to reflect on the lies they told that drove people to distrust public health directives. Better to just keep those masks on children in defiance of all data.

If Rogan’s podcast was erased from everyone’s memories, people would still widely distrust health bureaucrats and lockdown-happy politicians and media figures. Their own actions, lies, misleading statements, and failed policies are responsible for that distrust. They torched their own credibility, and they won’t get it back by kicking Rogan off of Spotify or harassing his sponsors.
