When President Trump in 2018 reportedly questioned why the U.S. imports so many people from impoverished “shithole countries,” rather than places like Norway, Democrats and the national news media called it racist.
But why is it then that socialists in the Democratic Party are exclusively inspired by countries with almost all-white populations when justifying their dreams for massive government welfare?
On CBS’s “60 Minutes” in January, freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., denied that the U.S. should model itself after socialist states Cuba or Venezuela.
“Of course not,” she said. ” … My policies most closely resemble what we see in the U.K., in Norway, in Finland, in Sweden.”
During the 2016 campaign, Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who is now making his second bid for the Democratic presidential nomination, repeatedly pointed to Scandinavia, Denmark in particular, as the economic aspiration for America.
Incidentally, each of those countries is whiter than a NASCAR race. Sweden is 82 percent white. Denmark is 86 percent white. The United Kingdom: 87 percent white, Norway is 90 percent white, and Finland is 99 percent white.
Sanders said during an interview with ABC, “In those countries, by and large, government works for ordinary people in the middle class, rather than, as is the case right now in our country, for the billionaire class.”
It’s already incorrect to assume that these northern European countries are actually socialist, especially the U.K. And it’s difficult to compare any country to Norway, which produces about 100 barrels of oil for every man, woman, and child.
But it’s interesting how whenever progressive Democrats talk about socialism, conspicuously absent are references to actual socialist countries, like Nicaragua, Laos, Vietnam, or North Korea. The socialism championed by Democrats always looks less like Guyana and more like Gwyneth Paltrow. It certainly doesn’t look like America’s diverse society, where around 61 percent, and falling, are non-Hispanic white.
Maybe someone should ask Sanders, Ocasio-Cortez and their friends why their model countries could all get lost in a snowstorm.
