Two months ago, President Biden inherited a border secured by the diplomatic agreements his predecessor had brokered. Now, Biden has beckoned a migrant crisis of record proportions.

Thanks to Biden’s reversal of safe-third-country agreements and the “Remain in Mexico” policy secured by Donald Trump, the Border Patrol reports more than 100,000 encounters along the southern border in February, up from 78,442 in January. But unlike past border surges, Biden didn’t incite an onslaught of families swarming the border. Instead, by giving cartels and coyotes the green light to pass through the Northern Triangle and Mexico, his administration is now being met by an extraordinary number of lone adults and unaccompanied minors. To offset overcapacity in the existing HHS facilities for minors, the Biden administration is reappropriating a Dallas convention center into what it calls a “decompression center,” according to the Associated Press.
