Imagine Joe Biden’s luck that not only may he have been involved in a shocking case of corruption with his son and a foreign government, but that he’s now also being recognized as the victim of it!
Mike Allen of Axios wrote at the top of his widely read newsletter on Thursday that Trump is actively “trying to sully or smear the Biden family reputation” ahead of the 2020 election.

“Trump wants to use questions about Hunter Biden’s work in Ukraine, and any alleged involvement by his father, Joe Biden, as the 2020 sequel to [Hillary Clinton’s] email servers,” wrote Allen. “In both cases, he twists reality to make it seem like everyone’s dirty.”
You see, the story isn’t that Joe Biden, as vice president, may have used his position to enrich his son, protecting his lucrative positions on the boards of international companies, nearly all of which were in industries that Hunter Biden, curiously, had no prior experience with. No, no. The real story is that Trump “wants to use questions” about the Bidens’ conduct.
If Trump is talking about it, he must be “twist[ing] reality.” So long as Trump is talking about it, the media would have it that we simply refer to the strange, dark cloud hovering over the Bidens as nothing more than “questions.”
I wonder if those questions have answers. Anyone else care to know? Maybe anyone in the media?
Nah, they’re just questions right now. By the way, haven’t you heard that Trump is smearing the Bidens?!
To the extent that Trump is “smearing” Biden, it’s only because the media are accusing Trump of doing something inappropriate on a private phone call. When Trump back in July asked the president of Ukraine to look into any possible corruption that might have implicated Biden or his son, we might have never known about it if not for some career government worker blabbing to Democrats in Congress.
But he did and so now, yes, we have to talk about Biden and whether he and his son were doing anything fishy. That’s only a “smear” if you start from the assumption that Biden never did anything wrong, a luxury that Trump has never enjoyed from the same media.
We don’t know if Biden did anything wrong because people such as Allen simply aren’t interested in those “questions.”
