Tax dollars help fund ACORN

ACORN gets approximately 40 percent of its revenue from taxpayers, including a $138,000 grant from the Department of Justice in 2005. The Department of Housing and Urban Development gave $8.2 million to ACORN and another $1.6 million to ACORN affiliates.

According to NPR, the rest of ACORN’s funding comes from various philanthropists, corporations and foundations including:

* Bannan Family Foundation: $425,000 (2006-07)

* Citigroup: $1.5 million (since 1993)

* George Soros: $150,000

* Ford Foundation: $1.3 million (since 1993)

* JP Morgan Chase Foundation: $2.4 million (since 1993)

* Service Employees International Union: $4 million (2006-07)
