Our secret to drawing readers was to keep our stories to 350 words or less. It is impossible for me to say how I really feel toward our readers, our advertisers and most importantly, my staff, in that word count. But I will try.
To our readers: Thank you for making us a part of your daily lives. I hope you feel that we gave you what you wanted, not what we thought you wanted. We took great pride in writing for you six days a week.

To our advertisers: Thank you for your business. I met many of you over the last two plus years, and I appreciate your partnership with us. I hope we helped you to grow your business and that you achieved the best return on investment with The Examiner compared with other media.
And last, to my colleagues and friends at The Baltimore Examiner: Thank you for all that you have done. This was not a job for any of you. We were like a family working together tirelessly serving our readers and advertisers. I enjoyed every moment being your publisher. I would never trade this experience for anything. There has never been a harder working group of people that I have ever been associated with.
Mike Beatty was the publisher of The Baltimore Examiner.
