No one should take anything former FBI Director James Comey says seriously. The proof is in the national media eagerly promoting every dumb, opportunistic thing he says about President Trump.
The media’s favorite “Republican” is the former Republican who makes a big show about leaving the party to attack other Republicans. That’s all Comey is. The media is generously rewarding him for it.
During a CNN town hall on Thursday, Comey was sure to profess the current media catechism: He declared Trump a criminal, disparaged Attorney General William Barr, and, as a symbol of his devotion, resurrected the media lie that Trump during the 2016 campaign mocked a reporter’s physical disability.
Asked by Anderson Cooper if special counsel Robert Mueller’s report demonstrated that Trump had acted with “corrupt intent” in attempting to curb Mueller’s investigation, Comey dutifully said yes, even though the report explicitly said the special counsel could not make that determination in the face of countervailing evidence.
Cooper put down more bread crumbs for Comey, suggesting that if Trump hadn’t been president, he would have been charged with a crime.
“Yeah, I agree,” babbled the bobblehead Comey. “No doubt.”
Regarding the attorney general, Comey regurgitated the Democratic media talking point that Barr was acting “as if he’s the president’s lawyer.”
He said the same thing on May 1 in an op-ed for the New York Times. Writing from his high horse, Saint Comey accused Barr of “lacking inner strength,” apparently because Barr hasn’t joined the media choir and handed all of his power as attorney general over to Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif.
“He acted in a way that’s less than honorable,” Comey said at the CNN town hall before holding for applause. “He has lost most of his reputation with the way that he’s conducting himself.”
Talk about a pot calling the kettle hack.
Comey was allegedly a Republican before he was fired by Trump and suddenly found money Jesus. Since then, he’s spent his days profiting spreading the good word, which happens to be a steady stream of invective aimed at the White House, as seen in books, paid speaking gigs, and cable news appearances.
To this day, the media lie about Trump having “mocked a disabled reporter,” the same way they lie about Charlottesville. Comey, ever on the up-and-up with what tickles the media, made sure during his CNN appearance to check the “disabled reporter” box to get an extra pat on the back.
While explaining Trump’s “lies,” Comey recalled having dinner with the president when he was still FBI director, and Trump telling him how he had never mocked the reporter’s disability. “But you don’t interrupt the president of the United States and say, ‘Mr. President, I saw the tape, you made fun of a disabled reporter,'” said Comey. “Instead, it washes over you. And all of a sudden you finish the dinner or the meeting and you realize, oh my gosh, I’m part of the silent circle of ascent, that I just agreed that that’s true because I didn’t speak.”
It’s the same thing that every effete conservative in the media did after they spent the 2016 election opposing Trump, including Bret Stephens, George Will, and Max Boot. Once Trump was elected president, they “left the Republican Party,” earning lucrative cable news appearances and contracts.
Comey isn’t a saint. He’s a self-seeker and he’s telling the media everything they want to hear.
