President Trump released a proclamation in honor of National School Choice Week on Wednesday.
“By expanding school choice and providing more educational opportunities for every American family, we can help make sure that every child has an equal shot at achieving the American Dream,” the proclamation reads. “More choices for our students will make our schools better for everybody.”
The proclamation declares Jan. 22 through Jan. 28, 2017 as National School Choice Week. It also encourages “State lawmakers and Federal lawmakers to expand school choice for millions of additional students.”
This year is the seventh year that National School Choice Week has been celebrated. It started in 2011 with 150 events and has since ballooned to more than 21,000 events this year.
While the celebrations all fall under the National School Choice Week brand, they’re independently planned and funded, making the growth even more impressive.
National School Choice week celebrates all types of school choice, whether it’s open enrollment in traditional public schools, public charter schools, magnet schools, private schools, online learning options or homeschooling.
