Christie, still campaigning, savages Obama, de Blasio for NYC crime

What happened to Chris Christie? He’s still out there and campaigning, believe it or not.

Christie, on “Morning Joe” Tuesday, took the opportunity to hit some of America’s softest political targets, starting with New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio and followed by President Obama (whom he also implicitly blamed for a spike in crime) and New Jersey teachers’ unions. Christie seemed to suggest that New York City was in the middle of a crime wave and that not just de Blasio but Obama was partly responsible.

De Blasio and his wife, Chirlane McCray, had just come on the show to say that summer 2015 had been New York City’s safest summer in 20 years. Here’s the video of that interview:

Christie came on next and said that not all of de Blasio’s comments had been accurate.

“It’s not the safest summer if you’re a murder victim in this city,” Christie said. He pointed to a New York Post headline about an aide to New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, D, being shot in NYC. “I guarantee you this — this guy doesn’t believe it, he doesn’t believe it’s the safest summer in New York.”

Murders, Christie noted, are actually up year over year, a fact that de Blasio admitted in his interview after first after trying to gloss over it. Christie laughed off suggestions that he might be planning to run for New York City mayor.
