Testify against subsidies for illegal immigrants, get racist death threats

Ted Hayes is a colorful character — a black homeless activist who doubles as an anti-immigration activist. His website is something straight out of 1996, and it hasn’t been updated since 2008. It contains such “facts” as, “Roman Catholicism teaches “Thou shall not trespass.”

But Hayes is still just a guy with an opinion — like most Americans. Also like most Americans, he likes to share his opinion. You’d hope that both he and those who disagree with him could do so civilly, but unfortunately that ‘s not the world we live in.

On March 15, Hayes testified against a bill in the Maryland state legislature that would give illegal immigrants a deal on tuition at state schools — a much better deal than out-of-state American citizens get. In response, an apparent Chicano Activist posted racist video death threats against him on the Internet. Judicial Watch found the video on the YouTube channel of someone called TheTimmyTop, who subsequently pulled it.

What’s wrong, people? Can’t we just agree to disagree?
