Obama campaign touts Cordray appointment

President Obama has dismissed past criticisms that he schedules official events in swing states in order to gain a campaign benefit, but his 2012 presidential campaign certainly recognized the political value of his Ohio speech today, live-tweeting Obama’s introduction of the recess-appointed head of a financial industry regulatory bureau.

Obama’s campaign 2012 Twitter feed directed supporters to “watch live” when the president addressed the Ohio audience and announced his so-called recess appointment of Richard Cordray to lead the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. The campaign tweeted several quotations from the president’s speech, such as when he protested that, “for almost half a year, Republicans in the Senate have blocked Richard’s confirmation.”

Without a hint of irony, the campaign broadcasted Obama’s later declaration, among others, that “now is not the time to play politics when people’s livelihoods are at stake.”

The campaign has made a couple other observations since the end of Obama’s Ohio event, most recently assuring followers that “as head of the [Consumer Financial Protection Bureau], Richard Cordray will have one job — looking out for American consumers.”
