President Obama, commenting on the shooting at Navy Yard before addressing reporters about the state of the economy, limited himself to lamenting the tragedy of “yet another mass shooting,” while waiting for further information on the attack from law enforcement investigators.

“We are confronting yet another mass shooting, and today it happened on a military installation in our nation’s capital,” Obama said according to a live transcription. “[T]hey know the dangers of serving abroad, but today they face the unimaginable violence that they wouldn’t have expected here at home,” he added, referring to the military and civilian personnel who work at Navy Yard.
