Christie: Romneycare is not Obamacare

Chris Christie defended Mitt Romney on his health care program, speaking with Philadelphia talk radio host Dom Giordano about the issue last week.

“It’s not Obamacare,” said Christie, calling Newt Gingrich “intellectually dishonest” for comparing Romney’s heath care program to Obamacare.

Christie spent time clarifying the difference between the two programs

“They didn’t raise taxes in Massachusetts to pay for this.” Christie said, noting that Obamacare raised taxes by a trillion dollars.

Christie reminded the audience that Obamacare was essentially a government takeover of health care, while Massachusetts citizens still had private insurance. “93% of the people in Massachusetts had private insurance then, and private insurance now.” he said.

Christie was sure to clarify that what Romney did for health care in Massachusetts would not work for the people of New Jersey.
