Audio: Romney’s spox on immigration in spin room

Last night I wrote up an exchange I had with Mitt Romney spokesman and advisor Eric Fehrnstrom on immigration, and it has generated a lot of interest, so I decided to post the audio. Read the background here. My voice comes in around the 38 second mark.

And to be clear, I get the eventual argument Fehrnstrom was making — that tougher enforcement on employers would lead to a reduction in illegal immigration through attrition. But I was surprised that it took so long to get to that point, because I thought I was asking a basic question. An important lesson you learn covering political campaigns is that every candidate says they’re against “amnesty.” But there’s broad disagreement on what constitutes amnesty. So its important to clarify these things.
