Who’s knocking labor unions these days? Start with Joan Vennochi,  the liberal and refreshingly unpredictable Boston Globe columnist, who takes a look at labor union rallies in Massachusetts and notes that the state House speaker (a Democrat, natch) has proposed stripping unions representing local public employees of their privileges (she calls them rights) to negotiate health care benefits packages. The lesson I take away from her column is that public employee unions may not be the righteous voice of the virtuous proletariat, but rather a privileged group that the voters, even in Massachusetts, are getting wise to. But maybe I’m reading too much of my own views into Venocchi’s column–so go read it yourself.
