DeMint: Santorum keeps race exciting another month

Sen. Jim DeMint, R-S.C., said that Rick Santorum’s string of victories this week will keep the presidential primary “exciting” for the next month, but said he doesn’t know how the election will end.

“As he says, ‘game on,'” DeMint told The Washington Examiner today at CPAC 2012. “[It] keeps things exciting for another month or so,” he added. Asked what he thought would happen in the presidential race netx month, after Super Tuesday, DeMint declined to prognosticate. “I don’t know, it seems like things change every week,” he said. “I guess we’ll know more in a month.”

DeMint endorsed Mitt Romney in 2008, and defended him against charges of “vulture capitalism” from Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry, although he has not endorsed a presidential candidate this cycle. He also praised Ron Paul yesterday. ““If our nominee doesn’t pick up a lot of Ron Paul’s ideas, we’re missing the boat and we’re missing a lot of people who could help us build our party,” he told The Washington Examiner’s Paul Bedard. “These are not wild ideas.”
