Al Gore: Romney’s margin matters

In the absence of Current TV superstar Keith Olbermann, former Vice President Al Gore showed up to share in the network’s coverage of tonight’s New Hampshire primary. And say what you will about Gore — he is an expert on New Hampshire, having campaigned for president there twice.

Anchor Cenk Uygur threw it to the Al Gore to discuss New Hampshire, a place he knows well. Gore narrowly won New Hampshire in 2000 over Bill Bradley, although he was clobbered there in 1988:

“I think that in this case, the conventional wisdom that the margin really matters is probably correct. He’s going to win New Hampshire by all indications, but he has to win by a comfortable margin.”

(Gore, of course, knows everything there is to know about margins.)

He also said not to count out his chances in South Carolina, pointing out that the state’s early GOP primary is known for ratifying establishment choices rather than supporting conservative insurgents:

“South Carolina, I think, will be increased in significance. By the way, SC is not a strictly conservative primary. The voters there are conservative, but it was created by Lee Atwater in 1976 as kind of an establishment firewall.”
