During his White House Correspondents’ Dinner speech on Saturday, President Obama mocked the idea of getting a drink with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky.
Of course, even after I’ve done all this, some folks still don’t think I spend enough time with Congress. “Why don’t you get a drink with Mitch McConnell?” they ask. Really? (Laughter.) Why don’t you get a drink with Mitch McConnell? (Laughter and applause.) I’m sorry. I get frustrated sometimes.
On Monday, however, the McConnell team shot out a photo on Twitter of Kentucky’s senior senator sitting at a bar with a full glass of beer and a big smile on his face.
Opposite McConnell was an empty bar stool and a glass of red wine.
“Greetings from coal country!” McConnell tweeted to Obama’s Twitter handle.
McConnell also mentioned Clint Eastwood in his note, a tribute to the empty chair highlighted by the actor during the Republican National Convention last year.
