A bill to extend the Patriot Act by four years just sailed through the Senate, 72-23 and it will now head back to the House for final approval so that President Obama can sign it before it expires after midnight tonight.
But the bill couldn’t pass until Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., was allowed a vote on two amendments, both of which were overwhelmingly defeated.
