That message launched a flood of tweets utilizing the #40dollars hashtag either mocking the campaign or engaging it seriously.
This morning, the White House published a map of Americans using the #40dollars Twitter hashtag, arguing that the tax cut extension matters to Americans across the country.
It’s a seemingly small victory on Twitter, but the campaign is building buzz and making its way into mainstream media.
Republicans have successfully co-opted these Twitter campaigns in the past, but have little social media response of their own for the payroll tax fight.
It appears that the President’s “bully pulpit” is now becoming a “bully Twitter account” and only a taste of the social media technology that will drive his re-election campaign.
