Attorney General Eric Holder and Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano have not discussed Operation Fast and Furious, Napolitano testified today.
“I have not,” Napolitano answered when asked during a House hearing if she had talked about Operation Fast and Furious with Holder. To explain their lack of communication, she observed that “it’s been under investigation here and with the inspector general, and there was no occasion to do so.”
U.S. Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry, murdered by someone armed with a Fast and Furious assault rifle, worked under the authority of Napolitano.
Napolitano resisted being questioned about the involvement of officials within her department in Operation Fast and Furious at the budget hearing. “I did not know this was a Fast and Furious hearing,” she said.
She did criticize the gun-walking tactics employed in Operation Fast and Furious. “I think we all recognize that serious mistakes were made there that should never be repeated,” Napolitano told the lawmakers.
