We’ve been hearing a lot about the “unclear” goals of the “Occupiers.” Nonsense. Their goals are quite clear, if the media care to listen. I wrote about them last week.
I received a lot of feedback from my letter to the New York City protestors. To those who didn’t like it, and who thought that I exaggerated the status of the protestors as members of the professional Marxist protest class — not real people with real-world concerns — I think this video should be instructive:

Yes, this is anecdotal. But this has been typical and not exceptional at these little rallies, although perhaps the crowd reaction is not always as enthusastic as in the above video. “Occupy” events nationwide have been replete with propaganda from the communist Workers’ World Party and other messages explicitly advocating “Revolution,” (here in D.C., it was subtly spelled out in Red and Yellow), and speeches like the one above.
If you thought the Tea Partiers were a bunch of dangerous kooks, these folks should worry you much, much more. The organizers of these protests are not, by and large, political liberals. Liberals at least believe in freedom of religious and political association and commerce, albeit a more controlled version of it than political conservatives. But revolutionaries such as these despise the Middle Class as the greatest obstacle to the overthrow of the capitalists. If you work for a living and have a mortgage and a family — and especially if you have a small business — then their ideology says you’re the enemy. It’s really as simple as that.
Fortunately, at our little rally here in D.C., the only thing they will manage to kill is the grass in McPherson Square. Other countries have had much more unfortunate experiences with this sort of ideology.
