Chris Christie criticized Newt Gingrich today on Morning Joe, suggesting that if he won the Republican nomination, the former speaker would distract Republicans from defeating Barack Obama.
“The speaker just can’t help himself but to make himself the center of attention all the time for the comments he makes.” Christie said, “I don’t think that is a good thing for our party.”

Christie added that people in New Jersey would never support Gingrich because they remembered his “uncompromising and incendiary” term as speaker.
When Scarborough raised Gingrich’s conservative accomplishments as Speaker, Christie replied, “You talk to other members of your class in the House, they wouldn’t say it was because of Newt Gingrich. In fact, many would say it was in spite of Newt Gingrich.”
