After President Donald Trump and his allies mobilized a tough-on-crime agenda in Washington, Democratic officials throughout the country described the action as a fascist takeover. However, Rep. Byron Donalds (R-FL) understands that protecting people from crime is not authoritarianism — it’s common sense.

“It’s really important we need to stand up against this fascist takeover — that’s not a bad word,” Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) said in the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee hearing last week. “It’s a fact.”
