“That’s the way it works in this business sometimes,” Perry campaign communications Mark Sullivan said on Fox News earlier this afternoon, about the news that Chris Christie would endorse Mitt Romney this afternoon. “Northeast Republicans are sticking together in this case.”
When asked about tonight’s debate, Sullivan replied that Perry was spending his time meeting voters on the trail, suggesting that the debate was only a “stepping stone” to the primary election.

Sullivan added that a large portion of the conservative electorate was directly opposed to Romney getting the nomination.
When asked about Herman Cain’s rise in popularity, Sullivan mentioned the “American Idol feel” in the “fluid” GOP electorate and suggested that Perry was in for the long haul.
