Romney: We had our best fundraising quarter yet

ATLANTIC, Iowa – Mitt Romney said on Sunday that his campaign raised more money during the fourth quarter than any other during the election.

“We’ll do better this quarter than any quarter so far, but I don’t have a figure for you,” he told reporters following an appearance at the Family Table restaurant here.

Romney’s previous high was the second quarter, when he raised $18 million, so his comments suggest it will be somewhere north of there.

Romney’s fundraising ability is one of the key factors giving him an edge over other candidates, though he tried to downplay its importance.

“This is an election though that’s not being driven by money raised, it’s being driven by message, connection with the voters, the debates and experience,” he insisted.
