Columnist Tommy Christopher believes that Mitt Romney’s ‘Obama isn’t working’ sign evokes “racial stereotypes,” of a “lazy” black man.
“That’s not a nice thing to say about any president, but like it or not, it becomes a more loaded accusation when leveled at our first black president.” Christopher writes disapprovingly in Mediaite.

But it’s not just the message, writes Christopher who notes that the color of the sign is “black.”
“I have also never seen a political candidate give a speech in front of a black campaign banner, or one that featured a direct slam on a rival candidate.” he writes, “Racial subtext aside, Romney ought to reconsider setting such an ugly precedent.”
To make sure he wasn’t the only one that thought this, Christopher notes that he asked “four friends” including cable news anchor Goldie Taylor.
“Four out of four pointed out, unprompted, the stereotype,” he writes.
The Romney campaign has actually responded to these types of criticisms pointing out that it’s drawn from British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher’s campaign against the labor party with “Labor isn’t Working.”
