In a stunning reversal, the Obama Justice Department is poised to announce that 9/11 architect Khalid Sheikh Mohammad will be tried in a military tribunal at Guantanamo Bay rather than a civilian court in lower Manhattan, CBS reports.

During his run for president, few issues were more indicative of Obama’s criticisms of the Bush administration than his attacks on the treatment of detainees at Gitmo. Just two days after being sworn in as president, he signed an executive order to close the facility within a year, declaring it was to “restore the standards of due process and the core constitutional values that have made this country great even in the midst of war, even in dealing with terrorism.”
