During a speech at a medal award ceremony Wednesday afternoon, President Obama explained that he was honoring musicians, sculptures, artists, and even special effects artists who “make it look like those planes in space are actually flying like they are.”

As some in the crowd chuckled at his remark, Obama took a moment to defend his statement.
