Speaking with reporters at an Iowa lunch date this afternoon, Newt Gingrich mentioned a forthcoming barrage of ads against Mitt Romney.

When asked if that broke Gingrich’s pledge to shun negative attacks, he replied, “It can’t be seen as a negative campaign to describe accurately somebody’s record.” he said, “Otherwise why would you have a campaign?”

After reminding reporters that “Romneycare,” in Massachusetts used state funds to pay for abortions, and Romney’s record on guns, Gingirch said, “Our ads are going to be all very happy and positive. . . We don’t have to do anything negative.”

“You could have happy music!” Gingrich added a smile.
