Huge: Christie to endorse Romney

This is just the sort of thing that will help Romney in tonight’s debate:

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, just one week after definitively announcing he will not run for president in the 2012 race, plans to endorse Mitt Romney for the job Tuesday afternoon, Fox News has learned.

Those donors Christie summoned before declining to mount his own campaign? They’ll be opening their wallets to Romney. More importantly, here’s someone to ease conservatives’ fears. Conservatives won’t back Romney in the primary — they have been candidate-hopping all summer just to avoid that — but a figure like Christie can at least make them less jittery.

Also, consider this: Could the recent success of conservatives like Christie in the North, and the possible nomination of Romney, threaten the Republican Party’s reputation as a southern party?

Finally, Charlie Spiering points me to this Saturday Night Live clip, which is oddly on point here.
