“@Questlove is grounded,” a defensive Jimmy Fallon said on Twitter after his band “The Roots” played the song “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” by Fishbone as an intro to Bachmann’s appearance on the show.

Fallon was referring to his drummer, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, who tweeted during the show, “Aight late night walkon song devotees: you love it when we snark: This next one takes the cake. ask around cause I aint tweeting title.”

Thompson’s Twitter profile photo is a picture of the drummer posing with President Obama. The Roots also performed at a  fundraiser for President Obama in New York City in April.

Thomson also retweeted a supporter who wrote: “Huge ups to the fishbone tune for Bachman on jimmy tonight. Perfect entry song for her!”

According to FEC records, Thompson has donated over $8,000 split between Barack Obama and the DNC.

Tuesday, the band issued a statement saying that the decision was “tongue-in-cheek” and “spur of the moment.”

Republicans weren’t laughing.

“Jimmy Fallon owes Michele Bachmann a groveling apology.” wrote Rich Lowry, Editor of National Review.

Last night, Fallon finally apologized for the mess.

“I’m honored that @michelebachmann was on our show yesterday and I’m so sorry about the intro mess. I really hope she comes back.” he wrote.
