Likely voters regard Mitt Romney as the leader of the Republican Party by a wide margin, according to a poll released even as the national party has begun joint-fundraising with the Republican frontrunner.

“Twenty-six percent said Romney [leads the GOP],  with House Speaker John Boehner second at 13 percent,” Rasmussen Reports announced yesterday. Poll participants were given the option of choosing from eight Republicans, including the four presidential candidates still in the race.

The Republican National Committee has initiated plans to conduct joint fundraising operations with Romney, in anticipation of the general election.
